Sunset Tour
Start early in the morning with a visit to the Bali Butterfly Park (Taman Kupu Kupu) located 5 km north of Tabanan town centre on the road to Mount Batukaru, open 8AM-4PM daily. A small but well maintained centre for research and education into butterflies with some very spectacular species on show. Who doesn’t like butterflies? Best to visit in the early and mid morning when the butterflies are at their most active.
Then continue your journey to : Alas Kedaton, a natural site of about 12 hectares featuring an old temple guarded by hundreds of monkeys. In trees you may see colonies of huge fruit bats with massive wings. The monkey population in Alas Kedaton also somewhat less mischievous than at some other locations. With less traffic at this site the monkeys are less aggressive about snatching your personal items.
And finally your driver will take you to Tanah Lot Temple, one of the must-see temples in Bali. Said to be the work of the revered 15th century Hindu priest Nirartha, it forms an important element of Balinese spirtualism and mythology. You will see the magnificent temple perched on a rock just a few metres offshore. There is a footpath to the raised cliff area just to the south from where the views of the temple and the sunset behind it are outstanding.
Photo-opportunities abound.
